At NXT Battleground, which took place at the UFC Apex arena, Roxanne Perez defeated Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’s "Juggernaut" Jordynne Grace to retain her NXT Women’s Championship. During her post-match interview, CM Punk confronted her and imparted some advice. However, the former Rok-C didn’t respond in kind. This was a shock, because ahead of the show, Perez revealed Punk’s “eye-opening” advice.
Thanks to the current WWE/TNA deal, the Knockout’s World Champion got a title shot for Roxanne’s belt. After a hard-hitting match between the two stars, The Prodigy retained her title, with some interference from NXT's Tatum Paxley and TNA's Ash By Ellegance. During her post-match interview, she lost her cool. She asked how her victory was a surprise to anybody, as she was The Prodigy. This is where our favorite Second City Saint entered to tell the champion that she just got lucky. Despite telling her that she was above all the women of both rosters, Roxanne didn’t resonate with Punk’s words.
Perez looked at the former WWE & AEW World champion and said, “Thanks for the advice. What a hypocrite, huh?” While he was left shocked at the response, which resulted in another meme face, fans tried to deduce what it meant. Many believe it was a reference to the Straight Edge Superstar’s tattoo, “Luck of the losers.” Punk firmly believes that luck doesn’t play a part and that hard work can help achieve anything.
When the former World champion claimed that the former ROH Women's titlist got lucky, the reigning NXT Women’s Champ may have felt that he didn’t believe she won because of her own skill. This is a stark contrast from what The Prodigy said about the former WWE champion during an interview with Adrian Hernandez before the show. She said, “It doesn’t matter what they say, it doesn’t matter if they love you, it doesn’t matter if they hate you,” were his words.
She continued, “And that literally was just like very eye-opening, especially coming from someone like him that has done so much in the wrestling business.” She explained how she felt those words were a revelation during her early days in the business. The WWE star has displayed a pattern of this as his words helped out a rising star earlier.
Swerve Strickland claimed that CM Punk was a positive influence
Despite all the negative press CM Punk got during his final moments in AEW, Swerve Strickland never said anything bad about him. Similar to Perez, the reigning AEW World Heavyweight champion claimed that the Chicago-based star never showcased a negative influence that could have impacted him. The night Strickland debuted in All Elite Wrestling, the Straight-Edge Superstar defeated Maxwell Jacob Friedman in a Dog Collar Match. After his contract signing segment, the then-AEW star asked the roster’s newest member how it went.
The current AEW World Champion claimed that this moment made him feel positive about Punk. He added, “He’s always been a positive influence on me.” Despite these positive feelings, the Second City Saint would be ostracized by the company, Tony Khan and "Scapegoat" Jack Perry after the 2023 All In PPV in London. However, Punk returned to the Federation and is gearing up for a feud with Drew McIntyre.
