A number of sources are reporting the death of Jay Briscoe on Tuesday. Professional wrestler and one-half of the tag team Dem Boys, Jay was 38 years old.
Briscoe was currently signed to Ring of Honor, where he's a former ROH World Champion and a multi-time Tag Team Champion & Six-Man Tag Team Champion. Along with his brother Mark, he was also a founding member of The Briscoe Brothers, one of the most successful tag teams in ROH history. He has also competed in other promotions such as Combat Zone Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.
It appears All Elite Wrestling Head Honcho Tony Khan was the person who first broke the news on Twitter.
"Sadly, Jamin Pugh has passed away. Known to fans as Jay Briscoe, he was a star in ROH for over 20 years, from the first show until today. Jay and his brother Mark dominated ROH, reigning as champions to this day. We'll do whatever we can to support his family. Rest In Peace Jamin."
The wrestling world heard of the news and started sharing their thoughts and condolences, many were shocked to hear that he passed in an auto accident. Dave Meltzer reports, "Two people in car died in an accident at 5:30 p.m. in Laurel, Maryland. Just horribly tragic news."
This Is A Sad Day For Wrestling Fans
Briscoe wasn't potentially well known to many WWE fans, but he was well known on the indie circuit and to AEW fans, thanks to a few matches with FTR this past year. He was part of one of the great tag teams that hadn't been given a mainstream platform, and his passing isn't news fans were expecting to hear today.
Jay and Mark Briscoe were inducted into the inaugural ROH Hall of Fame this past year. They were involved in many violent and bloody feuds in their careers, which can be seen in the mini-gallery below.
We here at F'n Wrestling send our condolences to his friends and family.
