The first champion was announced to be crowned in a tournament, starting on October 2nd at Royal Quest II and ending on November 20th at Historic X-Over, with the new champion being scheduled to defend the title at NJPW's premier event Wrestle Kingdom 17 in Tokyo Dome.
On August 27th, four representatives from certain stables of Stardom were decided to compete in the four available slots. The representatives were Giulia, Mayu Iwatani, Starlight Kid, and Utami Hayashishita.
